Frequently Asked Questions
It is a unique urban game that allows you to discover the city in a special way. It uses a very intuitive web application.
Historical, cultural, and special information about the city, drone images, manipulated photos, mysterious sound clips, enigmatic videos, drawings of historical characters, Lego reconstructed monuments, and South African instructions all make it a unique experience.
The best definition of Urban Hunt we received in July 2021 from a player is as follows: "Urban Hunt is actually a combination of an escape room, geocaching, and Pokémon Go".
Urban Hunt can be played either in teams against each other or as a single team against the clock.
The objective is to collect as many points as possible by correctly answering extraordinary questions. For each question, we offer four creative answer options. There are a total of 20 missions.
The number of points received for correctly solving a mission is dynamic and depends on many factors such as the number of teams that have already correctly/incorrectly solved the mission. The web application also includes a live scoreboard and displays the location of other teams. This creates necessary tension.
At the end, each player receives an overview of fun statistics. This generates a lot of excitement during discussions about the game.
Most groups walk 2 to 4 kilometers during the game. The distance between missions is on average 180 meters. This way, walking is frequently alternated with rest moments where the brain is stimulated.
It is certainly not necessary to run during the game. Experience shows that the live scoreboard creates a lot of tension, which can lead to increased competition during the game. However, you determine the intensity yourself.
In every city, it is possible to play the game with a wheelchair or stroller. In this case, it is generally agreed upon between teams not to walk during the game. This way, no team is disadvantaged in terms of competition.
The game was created based on dozens of group observations, interviews, and scientific literature. After the development phase, many updates have been made to constantly improve the game. That's why, just like people who have already played the game, we are convinced of the quality of Urban Hunt and have implemented this guarantee.
Specifically: if the game cannot take place (cancellation) or if it is interrupted within the first 45 minutes, we will refund you in full. Send us an email and we will refund the total amount of your purchase without asking any questions or making excuses. We will process your request within a guaranteed period of 3 business days.
So far, this guarantee has only been used a few times, always due to extreme weather conditions.
The game itself lasts 95 minutes. A countdown clock in the web application displays the remaining time live. Expect a total duration of about two hours. This includes not only the game, but also listening to explanations, returning to the starting point, and enthusiastic discussions about the course of the game with accompanying statistics that are automatically provided.
You decide for yourself when the game starts. So you don't have to worry if you're late or if you want to wait for the rain to pass before starting.
After listening to the explanations, the players indicate that they are ready to start the game by pressing a button at the bottom of the web application. Once all teams have pressed this button, the game starts automatically. Check here how it works (step 5)
In the development of Urban Hunt, we have deliberately chosen for a game without physical guidance. This offers many advantages. Moreover, nothing needs to be downloaded and there are no technological barriers. Simplicity and reliability are at the heart of the mission. Furthermore, if someone from our team were to go on site, they wouldn't be able to do anything more. We are always reachable by phone in case of questions, although this hardly ever happens in practice.
The advantages of a self-guided game:
- The price is much lower. For a game with physical guidance, you usually have to pay an additional 15 to 20 € per participant.
- You choose when to start yourself. This way, you don't have to worry about delays or you can wait for the rain to pass before starting the game.
- You choose where to start in the city center yourself. You can find the playground here.
- A full refund is always provided if the game cannot take place or if it doesn't fully meet your expectations.
- Last-minute bookings are possible.
Starting the game is very simple.
Given that the difficulty level of the challenge varies considerably and you determine the intensity yourself, Urban Hunt is a fantastic activity for almost any group of 2 to 140 people. The game is suitable as a group activity for schools, families, businesses, groups of friends, youth movements, etc.
The game is often played by families consisting of different generations. If the elderly and children are able to walk at least two kilometers, with moments of rest every 210 meters on average, then the game is feasible for them. During the moments of rest, you should try to answer an extraordinary question correctly.
Each team must have at least one person over 12 years old. Each team with one or more children under 12 years old must have at least one adult.
It is possible to play the game with a wheelchair or stroller in every city.
The web application is very simple and intuitive. Experience shows that even people with little experience in using a smartphone can easily use it.
It is possible to add, remove players and modify the team distribution until shortly before the start of the game. However, please note that the game cannot be played with more players than the number you have paid for.
Hesitation between two group size categories?
We advise groups with (probably) less than 20 people to wait a bit before booking until there is more certainty. These groups can play at any time.
We advise groups with (probably) more than 20 people to make as accurate an estimate as possible and indicate in the comments field that there is still uncertainty about the appropriate category.
We advise schools and youth associations (under 18 years old) to make as accurate an estimate as possible and indicate in the comments field that there is still uncertainty about the appropriate category.
We advise you to wait a little before booking if you are a group of less than 20 people. These groups can play at any time.
We advise you to make as accurate an estimate as possible if you are a group of more than 20 people and to indicate in the comments field that there is still uncertainty about the appropriate category.
If the game cannot take place, we always provide a full refund. Send us an email and we will refund you the full amount of your purchase without asking any questions or making any excuses. We will process your request within a guaranteed period of 3 business days.
After 95 minutes, the game ends and answers can no longer be submitted. During the game, players see a countdown clock, just like a live scoreboard. The scoreboard is not displayed during the last 20 minutes to increase tension. At the end of the game, the results appear and each player receives an SMS that leads them to a page filled with fun statistics about your game.
On average, you can expect a consumption of 50 MB, which is limited. This is equivalent to using the Facebook application for 20 minutes. If you view all the photos and videos in the optional explanation of the answers, it can reach 80 MB.
The game is played in the browser of your smartphone. No installation of a "heavy" application is required.
A charged smartphone, comfortable clothing, and optionally reading glasses.
A city is alive: shops temporarily disappear from the urban landscape, facades are renovated, road works take place, etc. Every month, we perform a physical check of all challenges. This way, you are (almost) sure that all challenges can be played.
There is no problem playing Urban Hunt in the dark if each team has at least one good flashlight. Experience shows that the flashlight on the smartphone is not powerful enough for this.
Playing in the dark makes the game more challenging, which is why some groups prefer to play in the evening. On average, each city has one or two very difficult challenges to solve in the dark. Thanks to a creative/smart approach, some teams still manage to solve them correctly.
Urban Hunt is suitable for groups of 2 to 150 people. In the case of larger groups (> 80 people), there may sometimes be two waves of the game.
Urban Hunt can be played in any city in French, Dutch, and English.
The importance of language is rather limited. The focus is on strategic choices, sounds, photos, drawings, etc.
By asking players to register via SMS (and not via Whatsapp), the activity remains a surprise. It is also possible to manually add players.
After 95 minutes, each team is at a different location on the playing field. The web application automatically closes. At that time, a pop-up window also appears asking to return to the starting point. The groups are of course free to agree on a different location before that.
